Jerash – Residents of areas united with the municipality of Al-Maarad complain about the decline in the level of services, among which the most important is the reality of public hygiene, which pushes citizens and workers to burn waste overnight on public roads. reduce the breeding of insects, rodents, reptiles and stray dogs, despite the risk of this method to the population and causing environmental pollution, even in forests adjacent to fires.
Among these areas is the city of Sakib, which has over 25 thousand inhabitants, where they complain that with rising temperatures, unpleasant odors emanate from the containers in which the waste that is collected is not collected every day, but once. or twice a week, in the best conditions, especially and that the number of workers does not cover the needs of areas of the population that are scattered in large areas.
In this regard, a resident, Mansour Al-Bourini, confirms that the city of Sakib is one of the largest population centers at the governmental level, while the number of workers does not cover the general population and most of the mountainous neighborhoods cover large areas. , and that all areas belong to the organization, where residents pay licenses, taxes, bills and fees Garbage collection without any service.
Al-Borini explained that homeland workers and citizens burn waste inside containers to reduce the collection of tons of waste near them, as well as to reduce the multiplication of rodents, insects and flies and the emission of unpleasant odors from them, especially with the onset of summer.
On the other hand, another resident, Omar Bani Ahmed, says that the area is currently in the recovery phase from Corona and therefore all services provided in residential areas, especially waste collection services, lighting and paving of roads, must be recovered.
Bani Ahmed believes that the deterioration of the hygienic situation contributes to the spread of diseases and epidemics and the deterioration of health services, especially since mosquitoes and insects that multiply in the waste are a fertile environment for the spread and spread of diseases.
Bani Ahmed calls on the municipality of Al-Maarad to organize an organized work program for the collection of waste from the city of Sakib and the surrounding neighborhoods, and to treat environmental conditions in a healthy way, especially since waste incineration is a method uncertain. it is unsafe for health and the environment, and poses a greater risk to citizens than the collection of waste, especially and that the containers are close to houses, and scattered on the road, and they are scattered in different places, therefore their burning causes more harm to the population.
On the other hand, a resident of Huseiniyat area in Saqib Abdul Qader Freihat says that the area is mountainous and its roads are still dirty and narrow, and the presses do not reach them at all, so the residents are forced to transport the waste by vehicles. to places that arrive from the press or rent private vehicles at the expense of residents and collect waste there every month. This is a costly method psychologically and financially for them, especially since vehicle owners refuse to transport waste inside their vehicles even if wages are high. .
Freihat points out that the main roads and various villages and towns of Sakib are tourist corridors and visitors pass through them all the time, especially during this period, and must first be clean and ready to wait for their homes.
He pointed out that the town and surrounding villages needed a campaign to collect all waste and clean containers on a weekly basis until the hygienic situation was brought under control and reinforced with a larger number of workers and containers compared to other areas. .
He added that the condition of the roads in the town of Sakib is also very bad, as the main roads have been turned into dirt lanes or unusable agricultural roads, despite the requests of the residents for their asphalting since the beginning of the recovery phase from Korona.
It is believed that the stages passed by the municipalities have negatively affected the level of services in them as a result of the pandemic and its consequences, and the citizen is the one who pays the price for these phases and changes, despite the fact that residents are obliged to pay waste fees. asphalting revenues and licenses.
In addition, Al-Ghad tried several times to contact Al-Maarad mayor Hassan Al-Marazic, but to no avail.
On the other hand, an official source in Al-Maarad municipality, who asked not to be mentioned, said that the number of home workers in the city of Sakib is 28, and the number of taxis is 7, of which 6 work in total. areas and population centers of the municipality, the largest of which is the town of Sakib.
The source explained that workers are working in the city around the clock to check the hygiene situation, especially as the city has a wide expanse, a population of about 25,000 inhabitants, and temperatures are very high and the number of working hours is limited. until early morning and evening.
He stressed that the method used in cleaning is the collection of waste and not allowing incineration at all inside the containers, especially since incineration is an unsafe environmental and health method and the containers are exposed to rapid damage, adding financial allocations. to the municipality has decreased by a very large percentage after the pandemic and the work is limited to paving and opening the most affected roads. According to the priority and in a very limited number as well as the purchase of lighting units and the implementation of campaigns. to combat flies and insects, while all services provided by municipalities have been affected by the pandemic.
