Jumana Abu Halima
She is over one hundred and two years old and still lives in the camp where she spent her youth and old age, in the Al-Wihdat camp, which bears her name, seventy-five years waiting to return to Palestine, near and far, her body worn by old age, but her mind still remembers the way back, has not left her friends, nor homes, nor the fear of wars and revolutions she experienced, she still remembers despite the violent absence of some. small details from her memory.
“I am Fatima Ibrahim Mekbul, born in 1920 in the village of Kafr Aana. I remember that we and the village of Al-Abbasiya next to our village are a family, between us there is a wall of patience, my village is planted with everything, oranges, patience, figs, grapes, apples, in our country there are many ponds and each family Has a wheat field and a pond.
The number of families in our country is five: the queen, Sharia, Saleh, Abdullah and al-Masarweh.
I still remember our house well; It consisted of two brick rooms. We landed at Lydda airport and I remember the elementary school that was in our country for men and women, as well as the writers, even though my father did not send me to school and I did not study at all. mother and working with father in orchards. We had orange and we, the orange traders, exchanged products with other traders; Whoever had an orange replaced it with rice or meat. Usually the locals sold all their agricultural and handicraft products at Saturday market in Abbasiya village and Jaffa market.
Kfarana oranges were packed in crates directly from the tree to the ships and then went to Europe
The place was full of cafes and shops and had a mosque. The Jews did not live in our city, they were around the city, came from Jaffa and got good eggs and oranges and bought them all. Our most popular dishes, which I love and have continued to cook here in emigration, are: Karshat, Ross and Maftoul.
In our country there are two wells, a salt well and a sweet well and each well has a well that is used for irrigation and the land was filled with artesian water.
In our country there were natural pools that appear in winter and disappear in summer and at that time the land was well irrigated, so they were planted in their place.
Baladna School was up to the fourth grade, after which the students go to study in Jaffa and finish high school there. I remember that four people from our country completed their university studies abroad before 1948.
There was no hospital in our country before 1948. Those who got sick went to Jerusalem or Jaffa and in our country there was a train.
I had friends in the country, friends of childhood and youth and I remember them: Ghalia Al-Sharqawi, Bahia Doghmush and Maryam Maqbool.
The women of our country wore so much gold, so famous for it, that in their thirties they sewed it in sandals.
As for weddings, women started preparing for the wedding and the apparatus four months before the wedding. The necklace is 100 gold and the gold extends from the neck to the waist. At weddings we cooked rice with meat, boiled rice and cooked lamb with it, and the wedding lasted a whole week and the girl’s dowry was 300 Palestinian pounds. I did not get married and chose to raise my nephews Ali.
The streets of our city were paved and there was a wheat mill (Babur wheat) in it, and my uncle, my father’s brother, was a street sheikh, Sheikh Muhammad Mahmud Maqbool, the chief of the country, and his fame spread to the neighboring villages. , and in our country the shrine of Sidi Malik and the shrine of Shejha Fatima.
Among the largest families in our country are: Doghmush – Musa – Daasan – Kaush – Hammad – Issa – Hamo – Khair – Qeshta – Bayoudh – Hammad and Jabali.
I still remember when we, my family and my relatives all went to the season of Nabi Saleh and Nabi Rubin in Jaffa in the Mediterranean and Nabi Musa in Jericho. It is a flag held by a person who leads the people of the season.
I lived the world war, where people circulated its news, as well as the revolution of 1934 and 1936, where my cousin was killed, Abu al-Ayla, was a very handsome young boy.
We left our country alone with the keys to our houses, and we only have clothes to wear, when the war broke out in 1948, we set off from Kafr Anah to Lydda and then to Rima’s house, we stayed at Rima’s house for 9 years . in Bustan, then we moved to Jericho in Aqabat Jabr where he worked, my father is in the Qantuli monastery on the banana, papaya, date and cream farms, and I remember that the Abbasids also left with us.
I remember that the Jews when they passed through our country called the names of some people and when they came out of the houses they killed them.
I remember a massacre in Deir Yassin, when the Jews killed many of the villagers, and also a massacre took place in Qibya.
Tanks were passing through the country roads trampling dozens of people.
The partition of 1947 swept our country, so the people of the country rose up, made a revolution and attacked the “Telvinsky” camp, at which time they began to feel the danger and began to arm themselves in secret. 13 guns in place at the time.
In 1948 they again attacked the camp land with the participation of the people of Abbasid, Salamas and Kafr Anas.
In the war of 1948 of our country, 14 revolutionaries and the people of the country were killed, as well as the midwife.
In 1948, rescue forces came to our country like other villages and told us to go out for a short truce for a week and then come back and we did not come back until now, they expelled us and did not guarantee our return. .
During the displacement, many of us died of heat and thirst, at that time my four grandchildren, two daughters and two sons, ranged in age from 4 to 6 years old.
Where we stayed long under homeless trees, people dying from heat and reptiles, we stayed in this state for a month.
And in response to those who say that the martyrs of Kafr Ana fell in 1948, deliberately, in the records of the League of Kafr Ana it was mentioned that they fell in the future, and they are:
1- Martyr Arends Youssef Hammo: He was martyred in 1938 when he was forty years old, during the Great Palestinian Revolution.

And every day since then, we have called for me and the rest of my family, my family and my country to return, and we are waiting for it.
