Inside the Space Hotel is scheduled to open in 2025

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The future of travel can be waking up in an elegant hotel room overlooking the solar system. The US-based space company, Orbital Assembly, has unveiled new information and concepts for its idea of creating a space hotel, and the designs that revolve around it, from 2019.

This futuristic concept was first introduced by the California-based Gateway Foundation, called the Von Braun station, and consists of several units connected by elevator shafts to form a wheel that rotates around the Earth.

The project is currently being undertaken by Orbital Assembly Corporation, the aerospace construction company that has severed its ties with Gateway. And wants to launch two space stations to accommodate tourists: the “Voyager” station, which is the name just given in the basic design, with a capacity to accommodate 400 people, and is scheduled to open in 2027, while the new station “Pioneer”, which accommodates 28 people, is expected to be ready in three years.

The Orbital Assembly explained that the goal is to manage a spatial “business complex” that includes offices and tourists.

And space tourism seemed closer to investigation than ever in the past year. Billionaire Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin, exploded in suborbital space with his company, Virgin Galactic, while Star Trek actor Willem Shatner became the oldest space traveler thanks to a brief trip to Blue Origin.

But the prices associated with each spaceflight are still incredible, making it difficult for many people to consider an off-planet vacation.

Tim Alatori, Chief Operating Officer of the Orbital Assembly, believes this hurdle will be removed with the rise of space tourism.

Speaking to CNN, he said that “the goal has always been to enable large numbers of people to live, work and thrive in space”.

Alatori explained that the appeal of the new Pioneer Station concept is that its smaller size makes it accessible in the fastest time.

“It gives us an opportunity to get people to start testing space on a larger scale and faster,” he added.

There will also be the possibility of renting office space and research facilities at Pioneer and Voyager stations.

Alatori considered this to be profitable in all respects for the Orbital Assembly, which depends heavily on its short-term goals from funding.

The orbital company imagined the two stations as a wheel that spins around the Earth.

In an earlier interview with CNN in 2019, Alatori explained that the physics of the Voyager Station work similarly to the rotation of a bucket of water.

“The station spins, pushes its contents out to the outer edge, and it’s a lot like the way you turn a bucket of water, the liquid rushes to the edge and stays in place,” he said at the time.

The closer to the center of the station, there will be no artificial gravity, but the more you move down and out of the station, the greater the feeling of gravity.

Not long ago, Alatori stressed that physics has not changed. But he explained that because the Pioneer station is smaller, its gravity level will be different. There will still be what he calls “comforts” caused by artificial gravity, such as showering and the ability to sit down to eat and drink, but spaces with less gravity will allow for extra fun and space features. .

The interior of the two stations seems to be no different from that of a luxury hotel on the ground, with only a few extra views of this world.

Alatori, who has experience in architecture, noted earlier that the hotel’s aesthetics were a direct response to Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which he described as “almost a plan for what it should be.” to be avoided “.

He explained that he believed that “Stanley Kubrick’s intention was to bridge the gap between technology and humanity, so that, on purpose, he could make the stations and ships very sterile, clean and exotic.”

The von Braun station was the original name given to the space hotel because its concept was inspired by the designs of Wernherr von Braun, a flight engineer who pioneered rocket technology, first in Germany and later in the United States, 60 years ago. first.

It is not limited to the rich

The International Space Station has previously hosted tourists, including the world’s first space tourist, Denis Tito, in 2001. But Alatori noted that the ISS is primarily a place for work and research, and the Orbital Assembly space hotel takes care of a next class.

He explained that “it will not be like you are going to a factory or a research facility”, but instead the tourist will feel that he is living a “science-fiction dream”.

“There are no wires everywhere, it is a comfortable space where you feel at home,” he added.

As billions of dollars are poured into space, there is also a growing backlash against space tourism, that money can be better spent on Earth.

In response to this criticism, Alatori said that “many life-changing technologies” stem from space exploration, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS).

Alatori also hypothesized that living in space would involve creating “sustainable communities.”

Despite the fact that the cost of space travel tickets is currently staggering, Alatori stressed that space tourism will not be limited to the super rich.

“We are doing our best to make space travel accessible to all, not just the rich,” he said.
