And how many Egyptian works, whether in cinema or television, were quoted and achieved great successes, but what hurts the artist is to quote or transfer a foreign work Without referring to the original work.

It is true that the issue of audience deception is held primarily by the author, but the connection of the issue to my dream did not come out of nowhere and this for three reasons. Most importantly, Ahmed Helmy has a long time. the story of public deception in most of his films, from “Keda Reda” to “Sorry for the inconvenience”, “X-Large”, “On My Body”, “Bulbul Hiran” and “Made in Egypt” , “Turn and Turn” and from that list only two films survived: “100 Congratulations” on the grounds that it was taken from the Greek myth of Sisyphus and “Black Honey”. Even his previous film, “Fantasy of Power”, was accused of plagiarism of an idea of ​​young writer Nihal Samaha!

As for the third reason, it relates to the comparison when we go back to the previous experiences of both the film’s hero, Ahmed Helmy, and the author Haitham Dabour. “A Men’s Stand” may have come close to many experiences, whether at the level of Egyptian or foreign cinema, but in the end it was not taken from a particular film. Dabour’s previous experiences carry some criticism, but they are far from issue of citation without revealing the original source.

In American film, we discover that the twins have different qualities, so we discover that Jonathan is a talented, successful, organizer, serious, strict and introverted architect, unlike John, who is limited in ability, absurd, that does not care. for everything, and Jonathan works part-time, despite his boss’s desire to work full-time, but Jonathan makes excuses to escape from it.

In the Egyptian film, the two main characters also had the same difference, with a mixture of some of the qualities of Jonathan and those of John, so we find Mustafa, who works as a social worker in prisons to assess the condition of the lost prisoners his passion in life and diminished his creativity and was dominated by monotony and boredom while the other person is “X”. Considered the previous version of Mustafa’s life in his youth, where he was brave, adventurous, outgoing and absurd.

This was the first point of difference from the American film, the pair are twins, in the Egyptian film, Mostafa and X are the same person, or as it appeared in the film that X is Mustafa’s past, but the big difference between nature. , the form and way of life of the duo Mustafa and X created a huge gap in the belief that the couple is a person.Even if it were in the past it is possible and natural for man to change over time, but what happens it is small. , not radical, changes in style, movement, way of speaking, even in form.

Poor construction that did not escape from “Albusa”

The second reason that raises the issue of the belief that Mustafa and X are the same person, the poor construction of the film and the bad drawing of Mustafa’s character at the beginning of the events through the meeting scene with old colleagues at the university, and regardless great difference in the real ages of the actors who took part in the realization of this scene, but the shooting did not add anything to the dramatic construction or to weave the personality of Mustafa or to reveal his real crisis of the issue of loss of passion or talent, especially after the nature of his work may seem routine through visits to numerous prisons, but at the same time he worked with new details every day telling the stories of the prisoners and also has the ability to innovate in this matter. of relationships with prisoners to discover the truth from them or even to help them talk to him, such as the “cat” character presented by Amr Abdel-Galil.

The American film was based on its construction in a scientific case called a single body with multiple perceptions, but in the Egyptian version it was replaced by “The Dress” which Mustafa took on the advice of his girlfriend’s brother. The routine of the twins lives and from here everyone tries to control the other.

In the Egyptian film, because they are the same person, there is no room for secrets, on the contrary, there is almost a surrender by Mustafa and she agrees that character X is the best in terms of creativity, human skills and personal qualities. which is the point at which the Egyptian scenario stands out.

Positive points, but …

Egyptian film is also known for creating a dramatic balance between the characters of Mustafa and X, unlike the American film, which triumphed dramatically for Jonathan and made him the main driver of events, but this state of equilibrium in Egyptian anger was intertwined with intrusive comic scenes that added nothing new to the film and added nothing to Helmy’s balance as a comedian. To reach the second stage of events, which is the conflict as it appeared in the American version, during which director Bill Oliver did not care to discuss or treat this scientific pathology as much as he was interested in presenting the fluctuations and developments of the relationship between the twins and the transformation from a merely routine relationship to an unconventional attempt to control the other before the Transformation into a split struggle for survival. . .

In the Egyptian film, the duo, Mostafa and X, embarked on a struggle for survival, but along the way some characters appeared, or weak in influence, such as Fairuz “Ruby” and the nurse “Nisreen Amin” or others who intervened, for example. as the two brothers, the cat and the cat, presented by Amr Abdel Galil, or the thief, whose role was introduced by Mahmud Hafez, the only character who was consistent with the events was “Sherawat”, who played her role with dexterity. , Noor Ehab, and was the best in acting level during the film.Sherwat is the only one among the characters of the film who had an impact on the course of events by treating the two characters in a dramatic dimension, which was the only line Light in the film is far from the rest of the seemingly detached and weak lines without dramatic connections, which went further down to the point that the most salient difference between Mustafa and X is limited to the exchange of “Hair Story!”.
