The concept of luxury in interior design, in the vocabulary of the Egyptian architect and decorator Ahmed Hussein, is the integration of advanced home technology, whatever their style, along with natural materials and luxury collections. The designer of the famous villas and palaces, as he is known in Egypt, says that “the head of every engineer is a permanent laboratory for the ideas he finds, during his day, his travels and his vast knowledge.” Decoration according to his personal identity of design …
Your excellence in drawing had a decisive impact on entering the field of engineering; Have you considered graduating in architecture in your high school?
Drawing has always fascinated me, but entering the Faculty of Architecture did not cross my mind. During my high school years I aspired to major in chemical engineering until I became a petroleum engineer. However, in the new year at the Department of Engineering, the instructor saw my drawings for the subject of engineering drawing and advised me to get into “Architecture” … and so it happened. I can say that since my first lecture at the Faculty of Architecture I felt I was in the right place. Since then the journey began.
How do you define the concept of luxury in interior design? Is it limited to using precious materials in a project?
I see that luxury is associated with a luxurious lifestyle that makes life easier for residents, especially with intelligent “homes” controlled by “mobiles”. Next, it plays the role of precious materials and style that can be contemporary in the case of smart or even classic “houses”.
Is it possible to design a luxurious living space using the “less is more” principle, or does luxury require filling the architectural void with lots of furniture and accessories?
The minimalist model is in line with the luxury of high technology, although this flair is desired by a small group of people. Note that the living space, in this case, will look comfortable for the nerves. On the other hand, the space is rich with collections and precious materials, originally embedded in luxury, but the inclusion of technology in it, makes it go very far in the direction of luxury in the way of life.
In the record of your projects, in the field of design, apartments and villas belonging to famous people in the Arab world; Is this group of people more demanding than others?
It all started by accidentally designing a house for a celebrity in Egypt. Then friends and acquaintances of this character came and asked for the services of the company she had founded, Rosary thought. What is common to most of this group of people is their aspiration for a comfortable, stable and easy-to-use home, in order to offset the hours and days of constant worry outside.
What materials do you want to work with?
I like the natural materials that the inhabitants interact with, because they are “alive” and charged with energy, like marble, wood and glass. It is worth noting that marble will always remain a luxury material. It is true that the materials produced finally mimic natural stone as well as modern porcelain, but I can use it in a commercial project that does not tolerate the presence of natural stone that requires constant maintenance, but in residential projects marble is mine. preference, as I said.
My design identity
In terms of interior design models; It is known that the preferences of the entrepreneur have an advantage … However, does it attract you to work according to a certain “style”?
I am not instructing any client to choose any specific style for his home, but when applying the latter, whatever it is, it is inevitable to set my touch, my design identity.
Are there any ideas that you have not yet implemented in any housing project? What are the ways that motivate you to renew your style?
I am inspired by everything around me, especially by the fashion of the people I meet in my diaries, as well as by the materials and colors of clothing. For example: I can design a living room at home, influenced by the colors of a passerby in jeans, a white blouse and camel-colored shoes. The look of ordinary things takes on another dimension in the eyes of the stylist, who ponders his head with thoughts and collects in his drawer “sketches” that can be developed and become an implementation process. The stylist’s head is a permanent laboratory for the ideas he finds, whether in his time, his travels or his vast knowledge. On the other hand, a stylist who remains focused on his past work rolls.
A luxury haven
The field of interior design is constantly changing, especially after the “Corona” epidemic, how do you cope with the demands of this world?
As a result of the epidemic, the house has become a place of recreation and a shelter for its inhabitants, as it includes a gym, a cinema and a “spa” … It is clear that going out is only for needs. , and that most activities take place in the apartment, not in public spaces. The interior design matches it all.
What are your plans for the future?
I am implementing new projects outside Egypt, as I have managed to commit to a design job in the Kingdom of Spain.
