dnata opens freight facility to expand London Heathrow operations

dnata, the global provider of aviation and travel services, has opened a new cargo center at the dnata City East complex of the airline at London Heathrow Airport.

The modern and specialized facility utilizes dnata capabilities at one of the UK’s largest airports, ensuring the continued smooth handling of a wide range of cargo at a time when the country’s reliable and secure air transport services are growing by speed.

Ground service provider expansion has resulted in dnata City East’s largest cargo handling operations abroad at the UK’s largest commercial aviation hub.

The new 10,500 m2 facility (Phase II) is designed to operate adjacent to the existing 22,000 m2 dnata City East facility (Phase 1), which opened in September 2019.

dnata will handle all air freight operations for Virgin Atlantic Cargo and Delta Cargo at the dnata City East facility. Outgoing shipments will remain in the first phase of the dnata facility, while the second new phase will serve all incoming shipments, allowing the two carriers to significantly expand their handling capacity.

The dnata City East facilities are located south of London Heathrow Airport and are specifically designed to accommodate the operational requirements of dnata Virgin Atlantic Cargo and Delta Cargo.

The facility approves the latest carbon reduction initiatives in design and operation, including the use of solar photovoltaic panels, wind heat pumps and charging electric vehicles. dnata City East received the BREEAM “Excellent” environmental rating for the design phase, with the construction process expected to receive the same rating.

dnata now offers freight services at eight London Heathrow facilities, including dnata City East, with a team of more than 750 professionals. The facilities provide advanced freight handling infrastructure and services to more than 30 international carriers in one of the world’s major freight destinations. In 2021, dnata handled over 500,000 tonnes of cargo in London.

In recent years, dnata has invested heavily in advanced infrastructure, equipment and technology to improve its cargo capabilities and operations, strengthening its position as the UK’s leading air cargo service provider.

The latest investment, in addition to its expansion to London Heathrow, has included the opening of the new dnata City North cargo complex at Manchester Airport. The facility at the airport covers 11,500 square meters of warehouse space and is able to handle over 150,000 tons of cargo per year.

After adding seven facilities, including six new buildings, to its infrastructure over the past eight years, dnata now operates 13 freight centers at six airports in the UK, which can handle more than 800,000 tonnes of cargo per year.

In addition to UK expansion, dnata has also invested in modern freight facilities in Karachi and Lahore (Pakistan), and increased capacity and freight infrastructure in Brussels (Belgium), Sydney (Australia) and Toronto (Canada).

Recently, dnata announced that it will invest more than 200 million euros to conduct its operations in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and will operate the dnata Cargo City Amsterdam facility at Schiphol Airport, which will become one of the largest facilities largest and most modern cargo in the world. .
